“Remember when your parents would tell you that as a child and you’d roll your eyes and think that you’ve got forever? Unfortunately, that ‘forever’ can change in an instant, which we all know in theory. But when it happens, it’s an entirely different story. My last 8 years have been a tumultuous experience, to say the least, and I have learnt how little we know about people with brain injuries. Unfortunately, it’s not a quick fix. Break your arm? A plaster cast and it’s all fixed. Have a brain injury? More than likely, it never will be fixed. But the hardest thing that I have faced has been the ignorance surrounding brain injury. I have experienced a huge lack of understanding and it has become so important to me to educate the wider community on brain injury and the challenges people like me face.”
