Professor Bruce Bonyhady AM

 

Professor Bruce Bonyhady AM is the Executive Chair and Director of the Melbourne Disability Institute at the University of Melbourne. He is also an Enterprise Professor in Disability Economics, is widely regarded as the “father” of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and was Chairman of the National Disability Insurance Agency from 2013 to 2016. Prior to that, he was closely involved with the design of the NDIS, including as the Chairman of the Independent Panel advising the Productivity Commission during its Inquiry into Disability Care and Support in 2010 and 2011. The Melbourne Disability Institute has been established by the University of Melbourne to improve the lives of people with disability, their families and carers. Its “Vision” is: to transform the social and economic wellbeing and health of people with disability through high-quality research and translation, teaching and training.
