Tish Peiris

Since acquiring a severe brain injury in Sri Lanka in 1994 while working as a journalist, Tish has used study and exercise as a way of stimulating her brain. After two years of being an outpatient, she enrolled at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in a Masters of Journalism degree – a life-long ambition. At UTS she was also a Disability Officer on the Student Representative Committee, a National Union of Students representative and served on UTS’ academic board. She has also completed a Masters Degree in International Law from The University of Sydney. Tish uses regular exercise and education as a means of building confidence and a meaningful life. She is also contributing to a project at The University of Toronto in Canada to develop mobile phone applications for people with brain injury.
